I believe that MTV is trying to target teens and young adults as their main audience. Shows like “teen mom”, “cribs”, and “jersey shore” all feature young people. Though their plots are very different, their content is entertaining, interesting, and amusing. A moneymaking addition to the Music Television Network, would be “proposed”.
This show would feature people of all ages, making it something that all members of a family could sit down and watch together. It would attract both male and female viewers because the proposals would be so elaborate, that anyone could find comedy in it. This show could last 30 minutes or an hour, and feature one or two stories about men and woman who are proposing to their girlfriends and boyfriends. The stories followed would be over the top ways to ask someone to marry you.
These stories would be heartwarming and well planned, and the viewers will instantly become addicted to the couples and their quest for true love. Like most reality shows, people would send in video tapes of their ideas, and the network would select the most promising ones. By no means would this show be stereotypical because there would be a lot of different kinds of people who would want the world to see how romantic they are.
The show could even go international, doing a special on different parts of the world. Or, each season could be dedicated to some states (New York, California, Florida, Texas, Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii). Thinking way more into the future, there could be marathons of the best and worst proposals ever. The hook to the show would be that it is unknown if the significant other will say yes.
Seeing how far people would go for love would be a perfect addition to the MTV lineup.
