If I could pick any type of media that I would want to research it would be media's effect on body image. I think that body image is such a controversial, strong subject, and could be make a really interesting research paper. In cultures all over the world, there are many different interpretations of what beautiful is. Some think its being stick skinny, others think its having small feet, or dark skin and long hair. I would interview boys and girls of different ages to get the most accurate results possible. To investigate this subject I would interview many people from many different cultures and ask them research questions like:
-What were characteristics they found attractive on males and females?
-Who were their role models?
-Do they feel pressured by the media to change their body?
-What is beautiful?
-What types of media do they have access to? (magazines, internet, television, radio)
-What is an ideal body?
-What would make them more confident in their own skin?
The theory I would use would be the Libertarian Theory. I believe this theory most directly applies to the type of media that I am researching. I would be able to publish whatever I choose in the manner I choose, even being able to criticize the government for allowing the media to determine what type of bodies are sexy or ugly.
Your interest in body image in different cultures is excellent. Your questions would generate interesting data. However, I was interested in theories and research methods that pertained to the research chapter, not Chapter 15. I think that audience research would fit nicely in a qualitative framework, using interviews and focus groups. Good job!
